NLS is Prototyping products today with 3D modeling software and 3D printing allows products to go from an idea to a reality faster than ever before. Many people are now asking the question, “Where do we go from here?” Thanks to the advancement of virtual reality systems, that question may soon be answered.
A company called MakeVR is in the process of making a program with all of the same tools as a typical 3D modeling program; however, this program will allow modelers to create their objects in a 3D space. This will allow the user to essentially “hold” the product in their own hands before the product is manufactured. Once the model is created, the designer will be able to see how it fits with other 3D models, or in the environment itself. It may not sound like it makes much of a difference, but having this ability would significantly decrease the amount of time it takes for a product to be designed and manufactured.
This program can also allow several designers to work on a project all at once, and in the same space. This reduces any errors or changes that happen in the sending and receiving of files from one designer to another. This new program has only just started developing, but with the virtual reality market progressing at such a fast pace, this type of modeling could become a common practice in a few short years.
